WELCOME TO GEOLOGY 301
Geology of National Parks and Monuments will dig deep into the science of geology. We will study the foundations of geological thought and practice as they pertain to the formation of, and natural processes evident, at national parks throughout the western United States. A major focus will be to understand the tectonic evolution of the western states. This distance course will use streaming video lectures, web-based
instructional modules along with other exercises and readings.
We will learn about the language of geology and get to know geologic
maps and satellite representations. Plan on logging into your computer at least two or three times
weekly in order to stay up to date. There are weekly assignments
to complete that are based on the web lectures and geologic maps.
This course will be distance only -- there will be no on-campus
meetings or exams. Exams will be offered at specific times that
will be announced at the start of the class. Please work these
dates and time into your calendar right away.
